WAYNE Schefe sold his first lot of weaner steers for the year at the Toowoomba cattle sale on Monday. The six steers sold for 337.2c/kg.
"The cows calved late this year,” Mr Schefe said.
"We're still a couple of months off our main line to come through.”
Mr Schefe has 180 cows and calves with 400 head of cattle all together on his 809 hectare property, Rockview, in Cooyar, north of Toowoomba.
He also manages two other properties in Cooyar with 100 head of cattle on each.
"I've got 180 cows and calves, and their progeny, the heifers, I put into the feedlot,” Mr Schefe said.
"We often sell our steers here (Toowoomba).
"Heifers we feed at home and sell to McMahon Brothers, they're a wholesaler out at Killarney (east of Warwick).”
Mr Schefe is a fourth generation farmer on his property.
"I've been in Cooyar all my life,” he said.
"I've been farming since I left school in 1992.”
Mr Schefe said his property was benefiting from the rain.
"It's looking real good at the moment,” he said.
"We've got plenty of feed.”
